My pieces have very simple lines and are generally solid hardwood. I combine different woods in the same piece most of the time and use ebony, zebrawood and other exotic woods liberally as highlights. What some people call knots, defects or blemishes are, to me, very often the most alluring features of a piece of wood and warrant greatest emphasis.
PERSONAL VISIONMaking furniture is my third career. I grew up on the East Coast and went to Syracuse University. I spent 26 years as a reporter for wire services and newspapers, including several years at the Chicago Sun- Times and 13 years at the Los Angeles Times. I spent the next two decades in public relations for nonprofit and government agencies, ranging from the American Civil Liberties Union to the Los Angeles Superior Court. In 2010, I finally transitioned careers to full time furniture making, fulfilling a decades-long dream.

I relocated to Oregon in 2021 after living on the island of Kaua‘i for 10 years, where I made frequent use of Kaua‘i -grown woods like koa, mango, lychee, kiawe, pheasantwood and others. All of that was sustainably harvested--especially koa which is strictly controlled and requires state permission to harvest--and sourced right on Kaua‘i.
Moving to the Pacific Northwest, I continue that approach using sustainably harvested woods from the bountiful native hardwood forests, including ash, black walnut, cedar, hemlock, spruce and many others.
